When most people think of Arizona, they imagine deserts, sand dunes, southwest artwork, and adobe houses. However, Fountain Hills, Arizona is home to some of the best golf courses in the country. In fact, there are six unique courses within the area to choose from, meaning you can hit the links on the course, or courses, you prefer. If you’re a golf lover and are planning a trip to the southwest, be sure to check out these fantastic courses.
Desert Canyon Golf Club

If you’re going to golf in Fountain Hills, you might as well start at the original course. This club was founded in 1971 with the name Fountain Hills Golf Club. The views surrounding the grounds are incredible, with mountains and clear desert sky all around.
One of the main attractions at Desert Canyon is the massive 550-foot fountain. It erupts every hour, and you can see the spray from practically every hole on the course. Desert Canyon also has elevated tee boxes to make it easier to navigate each hole and determine the best route for your shots.
Once you’re finished golfing, be sure to check out the DC Bar & Grill at the clubhouse, which offers a wide variety of appetizers, main dishes, cocktails, and live entertainment. If you like to golf on Sundays, you can enjoy a prime rib dinner after the 18th hole.

Part of the appeal of golfing in Arizona is to enjoy the southwest desert vibes with each hole. Fortunately, Eagle Mountain incorporates the natural elements into the course so that you can enjoy the rolling hills and desert scenery while working on your chip shot.
Eagle Mountain is one of the nicest golf clubs in Fountain Hills, and it’s very close to many of Scottsdale’s finest resorts and hotels. The course has won multiple titles, including the Best of Phoenix Public Golf Course, 10 Best Luxury Golf Courses in Arizona, and the #1 Public Golf Course in Arizona.
This club is also very family-friendly, as children and adults can receive instruction from world-class trainers and perfect their shots from the driving range. You can also participate in various tournaments to test your skills against other amateur and pro golfers. The Eagle Mountain Grille also has some incredible views of the grounds and surrounding desert to enjoy while you enjoy your round of golf.

Unlike the other clubs on this list, Firerock is a members-only golf course. So, either you have to join the country club or get invited by a member to be able to hit the fairways. If you’re only visiting Fountain Hills, you’ll have to figure out the latter.
That said, if you get a chance to golf at Firerock, you’ll appreciate the splendid scenery and luxurious accommodations. Beyond golfing, you can enjoy other amenities, including tennis courts, pickleball courts, a swimming pool, and a fitness center. The club also offers banquet services for your next high-end soiree.
If only a membership isn’t enough, Firerock also has a master-planned community so you can enjoy living on this golf resort year round. So, if you’re trying to move to Arizona and you appreciate the finer things in life, you might want to check out some of the homes for sale.

Sometimes, golf clubs can have something of a pretentious vibe. However, if you just want to have fun on the greens, you should book your tee times at Sunridge Canyon. While not located in Fountain Hills, it’s nearby in Scottsdale. This place is built for casual and professional golfers alike. The atmosphere is laid-back and accommodating of everyone who wants to play.
This is one of the Arizona golf courses that’s perfect for new players or those that just want to enjoy some time on the greens with friends, without taking themselves or the sport too seriously.
That said, if you are serious about your game, you can take advantage of Sunridge Canyon’s Cool Clubs outfitter. Here, you can test your skills and find the right set of clubs to suit your abilities. Cool Clubs has an indoor range where you can monitor your swing and follow through to see what needs improvement.
If testing out clubs makes you hungry and thirsty, be sure to head over to the Wicked 6 Bar and Grill. This restaurant is a taphouse and offers delicious American favorites. The bar also hosts events regularly, so you can check it out without hitting a ball.

Tonto Verde Golf Club

Technically, Tonto Verde is an active adult community with a golf club. Because of this, the course is members-only, just like Firerock. However, you can join the club without buying real estate, so keep that in mind.
The golf experience here is incredible, and Tonto Verde has two unique courses: Peaks and Ranch. The Peaks name comes from the stunning mountain views of the nearby Four Peaks mountains. As for the Ranch course, it refers to the club being built on the site of Box Bar Ranch, which was founded in 1919.
The golf course was built in 1993, and the community has since sprung up and taken over the surrounding area. As with other Fountain Hills courses, the grounds blend expertly-tended greens with natural desert elements. Plus, you can experience a real sense of community among the other golfers and residents.
As far as food goes, Tonto Verde has an award-winning restaurant, so be sure to check out the menu if you get a chance to visit.

Our final stop is at the We-Ko-Pa Golf Club, which has two unique courses and stunning views of the Sonoran Desert. Playing on this course will give you impressive views of the McDowell Mountains and Red Mountain.
The Cholla Course was designed by Scott Miller, and the Saguaro Course was designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. Both options are incredible, due in part to the fact that the club sits on Native American soil. So, you never have to worry about the surrounding desert getting developed and turned into housing and shopping centers.
In addition to the two courses, visitors can get professional instruction and test their skills at the on-site practice facility. Even just walking the courses is a lot of fun, thanks to the views and desert landscape.
